Case Study: The Wyss Center
The Challenge
The Wyss Center focuses on advancing understanding of the brain and developing innovative neurotechnologies to improve lives. Their website needed to showcase complex research initiatives, highlight collaborations, and present findings and educational resources in an engaging way. Balancing scientific depth, clarity of communication, and a visually compelling format required careful organization and alignment across multiple stakeholders.
My role as Product Manager
While orchestrating project timelines, budgets, and team deliverables as a producer, I also assumed product manager responsibilities by:
• Consolidating feedback from researchers, medical professionals, and program directors to prioritize web features and content
• Defining a clear roadmap that aligned with the Wyss Center’s mission, ensuring scientific integrity and user-friendly design
• Iterating on design and user flow decisions based on analytics, feedback loops, and stakeholder reviews
Planning and execution
I structured the development process into sprints focusing on core modules: research areas, team profiles, publications, and interactive data presentations. Through regular syncs, we refined site architecture to better navigate the Wyss Center’s complex content. By integrating user insights and analytics, we validated improvements such as enhanced content discoverability and more intuitive pathways for site visitors—ranging from fellow researchers to the general public.
Results
• Accessible scientific storytelling: A reorganized site structure and visual design made it easier for diverse audiences to grasp complex topics
• Improved research visibility: Detailed project pages, publications, and interactive elements highlighted advancements in neurotechnology, fostering engagement and collaboration
• Flexible content management: A scalable platform allowed team members to easily update the site with the latest findings, events, and media coverage
Why this project stands out
Blending producer and product manager responsibilities proved essential in turning a highly technical subject area into a clear, impactful online presence. By aligning internal teams, managing resources efficiently, and translating scientific nuances into user-friendly features, the Wyss Center site now informs and inspires a wide range of visitors—furthering its mission to advance brain science and neurotechnology.
