Case Study: The AI Institute

The Challenge

The AI Institute is dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence through research, thought leadership, and collaboration with academic institutions and industry partners. The website needed to appeal to multiple audiences—students, researchers, businesses, and the broader public—while showcasing cutting-edge projects and publications. Balancing complex, technical subject matter with engaging, user-friendly design required a structured approach to content organization and platform functionality.

My role as Product Manager

While overseeing budgets, timelines, and resources as a producer, I also took on product management responsibilities by:

• Gathering input from key stakeholders (research leads, industry sponsors, academic partners) and aligning these insights with user needs

• Defining clear goals and success metrics for the site, ensuring that content and features mapped to The AI Institute’s vision and growth strategy

• Maintaining a prioritized product roadmap that adapted to evolving needs, including new research highlights, conference announcements, and partnership opportunities

Planning and execution

I led the team through iterative sprints, dedicating each sprint to a specific aspect of the site—like publication archives, project portfolios, and user engagement channels. By continuously gathering feedback from users and stakeholders, I guided design refinements and feature enhancements, keeping the site’s content both relevant and accessible to a broad audience. Analytics were used to inform updates, leading to better discoverability of research papers and streamlined navigation for new visitors.

Results

• Enhanced research visibility: Improved site structure and tagging systems helped visitors quickly find relevant research, resulting in higher page views and increased time-on-page metrics

• Broader audience engagement: Clear storytelling elements, user-friendly navigation, and visually appealing content design attracted non-technical audiences while satisfying the needs of AI experts

• Adaptable content framework: A flexible CMS allowed for rapid updates and easy integration of new research, events, and partnership announcements

Why this project stands out

This project highlights my dual capacity as both producer and product manager. By combining high-level orchestration of team efforts with hands-on involvement in feature definition and user-focused refinement, I ensured the website effectively showcased The AI Institute’s mission and offerings. This synergy delivered a platform that serves as a dynamic, informative hub for AI research and collaboration.
